My name is Kathleen Kyer, manager of Physician Recruitment, Pediatric Subspecialties, at HCA Healthcare. I have over 25 years of experience in Physician Recruitment with a focus on recruitment and retention of difficult to find subspecialists. I have worked with many professionals in these years and would say that Corey is one who stands out.
When I first met Corey I was traveling to many of HCA’s divisional offices and familiarizing myself with the local recruitment teams as well as the hospital CEO’s, physicians and administrators. Corey was a memorable personality for me as he made it a point to be kind and offer any knowledge or help that he could professionally. On a personal level, we immediately connected when he shared pictures and stories of his twin daughters, and I of my own two sons.
A year or so after our initial meeting I began assisting with sourcing for Corey’s recruitment efforts at the University of Oklahoma. This gave Corey and me more occasions to work closely together. Corey had been recruiting for OU for some time and made sure to have me meet him there on a regular basis, getting me better exposure to the hospital team, ultimately creating a fantastic relationship between the team and myself that continued until the time that HCA divested from OU. Corey’s (and my) colleagues at other divisions were not always as generous with their time as he was and made my work to integrate myself into the teams much more tedious. I will always be thankful to Corey for his time, his professionalism and warmth-and especially thankful for his maturity in realizing that my role was to help him and not to “outshine” his in any way.
When Corey moved into his director level over the Continental Division, I again experienced his kindness and benefitted from his “big picture” outlook when he made sure I was getting exposure to the teams in all areas under his leadership.
Corey is an impressive professional and it is my belief that his well-rounded knowledge of physician recruitment would benefit any employer. His teamwork approach and attitude allowed me to gain my footing when I first came to HCA. I cannot think of any reason not to recommend Corey. I realize that this letter, however, provides only a snapshot of Corey’s knowledge, skills, and abilities, and would be happy to further elaborate on my time and experience working with him.

When it was announced that Corey was hired, it gave me hope that the system had invested in someone with vast experience in recruitment that could immediately provide much-needed guidance. His experience in the industry was impressive and we hit it off after one conversation. Corey‘s not only knowledgeable, he is very easy to talk to and gives one a sense of confidence. He thoroughly analyzed my individual market to give me many ideas help jumpstart the needs of my recruitment group. I found myself looking for guidance from Corey often. The scope of the project that Corey came into cannot be understated. He immediately took action to resolve many of the issues we are facing. I was also impressed that he made it a priority to get each market around the country and meet not only Directors but spoke with the Recruiters themselves. This installed great confidence in the entire team which made them feel as if they had an ally nationally. He is top notch to work with. I learned a great deal from him in a short amount of time. Corey is a servant leader and someone that I could fully depend on. He is an outstanding administrator and I highly recommend him. - B Wilson-Ascension Healthcare
Corey congratulations on your new position. It is well deserved. I have admired your work for years. You remain in my book the example of how you recruit physicians. Good luck in the days ahead. Jeff - Jeff Dorsey, President/CEO HCA Healthcare Continental Division 1995-2012

I worked with Corey when he was representing Care New England. Signing a contract fresh out of residency can be quite daunting but Corey was approachable and extremely efficient. He is diligent about communication and I always appreciated him taking time out to listen and provide instant solutions. His knowledge combined with many years of experience in the field made this complicated process run out as smooth as it could have. Being a physician requiring a visa, I truly appreciated Corey’s insights and multiple resources he had to offer. Discussions with Corey have always been centred around what I was looking for and how that could be perfectly matched with the position I was applying for. This allowed me to trust the process and find myself in a role I would enjoy. Based on personal experience, I would highly recommend working with Corey to anyone looking for a long term role especially if it’s a first.

Partnership Excellence at its root can be provided by just one individual, but when we see it occur with the involvement of both sides of the desk here at TMF, is when it’s truly next level. These two individuals’ efforts took a very skeptical prospect, turned them into a client, had 2 placements in the first 45 days and have created a long-term client in just a short couple of months. What’s even more important is that this client has been a CEO in IL for decades which had led to him being a reference on our behalf multiple times already. The following is a reference he gave another prospect. This prospect is now a client.
“We do not use recruiters a lot. But I decided to give Medicus a chance. They have come through big time for us. I am hiring a new Urologist and Interventional Radiologist through them. And I have them looking for four other specialties. They have become my go-to recruiting firm.”
We would like to nominate Sarah and Corey for their flawless execution of Partnership Excellence. New client, 2 placements, another new client, and a long-lasting partnership all forged in under 2 months? Great work to both of you – it was a team effort every step of the way.

Part of my prospecting process in BD is looking to company placements and using them with any pending agreements out there. I ended up having a client put their INT RAD search on hold early on as the local hospital (xxx) offered to recruit for the group/help with compensation after we had already engaged. A few days later, while still trying to continue the search, I saw an INT RAD placement come through that happened in about 30 days. I immediately contacted this recruiter to get the story to share with my client. This person is in a different division and I honestly don’t know him since we live in different places. None of that mattered to this recruiter. He not only shared the details of his placement, but he also put together an entire email of data and information about the placement, how the hospital recruiting system works, (he happens to also be a former xxx employee), but also compelling statistics and data for me to share with my client on why they needed to stick with TMF for the search. Different division. Not his search. But took a chunk of his time to help me, someone he doesn’t know, maintain business. I was so impressed at this extra effort and therefore would like to nominate Corey McDonald.
Cheers and stay well,

My initial impression of Corey is that he was very professional, positive,
prompt and highly informative. My wife (Tracy) and I had been thinking about changing our lives. We had been praying to find a different pace from the current one. It just seemed to be perfect timing that Corey came along. We developed very quickly a nurturing and professional friendship throughout the few months since meeting Mr. McDonald. I shortly later came to realize that Corey not only had a very professional demeanor about himself but also a human compassionate side. I was impressed by how he was able to relate with us, having a teenage daughter (and understanding the implication and how dramatic a change would be for our daughter (Erica). The fact that he was once in Orange County, CA so, he knew how big of a lifestyle change this would be for my family and I.... Corey is a life saver. We wanted to tell you all, that Corey truly is a Gem and we have been blessed that God brought him in our lives. Feel free to call us anytime should you have any questions regarding Mr. Corey McDonald.

I wanted to take the time to acknowledge Corey McDonald and all of his help leading to the signing of my first contract. In residency we are given little help with regards to hunting for the perfect position and Corey made the entire process seamless. He was accommodating with discussions on what I was looking for and acknowledged what was important for my family and I. At no point did I feel rushed or pressured like other recruiters I spoke with and he was available at times convenient for me during an extremely busy residency schedule including both evenings and weekends. Beginning the job search I heard many horror stories regarding recruiters but my experience with Corey was nothing but positive. He was available to talk during nights and weekends and was in frequent contact moving discussions forward. He facilitated conversations between myself and the hospital and was quick to action for any questions I had and requests during negotiations allowing the entire process to be enjoyable rather than stressful. I have nothing but positive experiences during this process and would recommend Corey to anyone searching for a new position.
If there is anything I can do for Corey or the Medicus Firm, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
